What Everyone Wants
to Know About MILA.

THE PROCEDURE

What is a MILA?

A MILA is a laser-assisted, awake facial procedure that restores the structure of your face without general anesthesia. It's done the same day, and results keep building for about three months as your own collagen responds.

How does a MILA compare to a traditional facelift?

A traditional facelift typically means general anesthesia, an operating room, and several weeks of recovery. A MILA is laser-assisted and awake, performed same-day at an accredited facility, with comfortable social recovery in 7–14 days and results that continue improving for three months.

How does a MILA compare to a deep plane facelift?

Both address the deeper structural layer of the face. A MILA does it laser-assisted and awake, with same-day recovery. Your surgeon will discuss which approach best fits your anatomy and goals at your consultation.

Who developed the MILA Method?

Dr. Spero Theodorou, MILA's Founder and Chief Medical Officer, who co-developed the laser and RF technology behind it as Chief Medical Officer of InMode from 2015 to 2024.

SEDATION & SAFETY

Do I need general anesthesia?

No. A MILA does not require general anesthesia. Your sedation plan is tailored to you and reviewed at your consultation, and the procedure is performed at an accredited facility. Not all patients are candidates; candidacy is evaluated at consultation.

Will the laser create additional scarring?

Incisions are placed in concealed locations — natural skin folds and along the hairline. The laser is used to work more precisely through them, with the goal of less surrounding tissue trauma.

Am I a candidate?

Candidacy depends on your anatomy, goals, and health history, and is evaluated at your consultation. Not all patients are candidates.

RECOVERY & RESULTS

How long is recovery after a MILA?

Most patients return to light activities within a few days and are comfortable socially within one to two weeks. Traditional recovery typically requires 4–6 weeks of visible downtime.

Why do results keep improving for 90 days?

The laser's thermal effect stimulates your own collagen. New collagen continues forming for up to 90 days, so the result refines and improves over the first three months rather than simply settling.

How long do results last?

A MILA produces lasting structural correction. Your face continues to age naturally over time, but the structural improvement is durable. Your surgeon will discuss what to expect for your situation.
